Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has lightheartedly warned MPs against making advances toward newly sworn-in Ablekuma North MP, Ewurabena Aubynn.

Speaking during her swearing-in on July 22, Bagbin remarked, “I saw some of you taking her number. Honourable Members, she is not in the market, so don’t attempt,” prompting laughter across the chamber.

Aubynn’s entry into Parliament brings the number of female MPs to 41. She was elected after a closely contested rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency, where she secured 34,090 votes to edge past NPP’s Akua Afriyie, who garnered 33,881.

The rerun was held in 19 polling stations after the Electoral Commission nullified the December 2024 results due to irregularities, including unsigned result forms and vote tally issues.

Notably, the swearing-in was preceded by a Minority walkout, protesting the Speaker’s refusal to allow Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh to make a statement before the ceremony.
