Second Blaze in 24 Hours Raises Fire Safety Concerns in Kumasi Markets
Another fire outbreak has struck the Kumasi Metropolis, barely a day after a major blaze at the Sofoline Magazine, intensifying concerns over fire safety in commercial areas.
The latest incident occurred late Monday night at around 10:00 pm when a fire swept through the Anwona Market near Afful Nkwanta, destroying multiple shops and their contents.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service were promptly dispatched to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings and other parts of the market.

The cause of the fire has not yet been officially established. However, eyewitnesses suggested that the blaze may have originated from a section of the market where a footwear manufacturing facility operates.
No injuries or fatalities have been reported. Nevertheless, traders at the Anwona Market are reported to have incurred heavy losses as merchandise, equipment and other valuables were completely destroyed.

The Ghana National Fire Service has since launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the incident. Authorities have also renewed calls for enhanced fire safety measures in markets and other commercial centres to prevent recurring outbreaks.
