Police Investigate Alleged Assault on NPP Vice Chairman During Akwatia By-Election
The Akwatia District Police Command has opened investigations into an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, Third Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during Tuesday’s by-election in Akwatia.
The incident reportedly occurred at the Akwatia Lorry Station in the Vawaso Electoral Area, where tensions flared between Alhaji Masawudu and the escort of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka.
Alhaji Masawudu, who had been deployed to the Zongo area to monitor the polls, said the altercation happened while he was speaking to journalists.
In a statement issued Thursday, September 4, 2025, the Eastern South Regional Police Command confirmed that Mr Masawudu was given a medical form to seek hospital treatment, with the endorsed report expected to support ongoing investigations.
The case has since been transferred to the Eastern South Regional Command for further inquiry. DSP David Fianko Okyere, head of the Public Affairs Unit, assured the public that police will pursue the matter thoroughly and maintain law and order.
