No Ashanti MCE? Mamponghene Fumes, Orders NDC to Withdraw Divisive Statements

The Ashanti Mampong Traditional Council, led by Mamponghene Dassebre Osei Bonsu II, has given the NDC leadership in the Mampong Constituency less than 24 hours to retract anti-Ashanti statements made by some party youth.
The demand follows protests by NDC supporters against the rumored nomination of Esther Dwomoh, an Ashanti, as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). The youth, favoring three other candidates, vandalized party offices and declared, “No Ashanti will be allowed to become MCE of Mampong.”
Dassebre Osei Bonsu condemned the remarks, emphasizing Ashanti’s tradition of tolerance and unity. “We treat everyone equally why cause division?” he questioned.
The NDC leadership has apologized for the violence and urged calm pending President Mahama’s final decision.
