MTN, Telecel Get Extra Spectrum as Gov’t Cracks Down on Poor Network Service

Ghana’s Minister for Communication and Digital Technology, Sam George, has approved additional spectrum for MTN and Telecel in a bid to improve mobile network quality nationwide.
Addressing the press on April 9, he acknowledged widespread public complaints about unreliable service from telecom providers. To address this, MTN has been granted technology neutrality, and both MTN and Telecel will receive extra spectrum to boost their capacity.
George emphasized that these resources are meant to enhance service quality and warned that telecom operators will be monitored closely. The National Communications Authority (NCA) will begin enforcing strict quality standards within three months and companies that fail to meet them will face heavy fines.
