Mobile money transactions hit GH¢447.4 billion in February 2026
The Bank of Ghana has reported that mobile money transactions in Ghana reached GH¢447.4 billion in February 2026, reinforcing the growing importance of digital payments in the country’s financial system.
According to the central bank’s latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data, the February figure represents a slight increase from GH¢446.2 billion recorded in January 2026. However, it remains below the peak of GH¢518.4 billion registered in December 2025.
Transaction volumes, on the other hand, declined during the period. Mobile money platforms processed 899 million transactions in February, compared to 949 million in January and 982 million in December, indicating a slowdown in activity after the festive season surge.
The number of registered mobile money accounts continued to rise, reaching 81.8 million in February, up from 81.2 million the previous month. This points to ongoing expansion in access to digital financial services across the country.
Active accounts, defined as those that have recorded at least one transaction within the past 90 days, stood at 26.5 million. Meanwhile, the total number of registered agents increased to 976,000, with 515,000 actively facilitating transactions nationwide.
Despite the growth in usage and access, the total value held in mobile money float accounts declined to GH¢33.9 billion in February, down from GH¢35.6 billion in January.
Interoperability transactions, which allow users to transfer funds across different mobile money networks, recorded a value of GH¢4.9 billion during the month, with a total of 27.2 million transactions processed.
Overall, the latest data highlights the continued strength of mobile money in driving digital payments and advancing financial inclusion, even as transaction volumes show signs of short term adjustment.
