The Minority in Parliament has accused the Majority of abusing the legislative process after 33 bills were passed under certificates of urgency in 2025, describing the practice as “legislation by ambush.”

Speaking on PM Express on Tuesday, Deputy Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Tolon, Mohammed Habib Iddrisu, said the development reflected a troubling trend since the government assumed office, contrary to the promises made to Ghanaians.

He argued that despite the commencement of the first sitting of Parliament in 2026, the government had yet to demonstrate meaningful legislative direction.

“In this sitting in 2026, the first sitting in 2026, and the fact that this government came into office on the back of a lot of promises many unrealistic, many deceptive, many that actually cannot materialise nothing has been done,” he said.

Mr. Iddrisu described the conduct of the Majority as hasty and dismissive of due parliamentary process, adding that the so-called supermajority in the House had been rendered ineffective by how it was being exercised.

According to him, the Minority convened a press conference to draw public attention to events in 2025, during which several bills were introduced and passed under certificates of urgency without adequate scrutiny.

He further alleged that some of the bills were laid and withdrawn overnight, while others were subjected to amendments shortly after being rushed through Parliament, raising concerns about legislative consistency and transparency.
