Minority Alarms Over Flood of Sophisticated Weapons in Bawku, Demands Urgent Action

The Minority in Parliament has raised grave concerns over the escalating violence in Bawku, warning that the influx of high-grade weaponry is turning the conflict into a national security crisis.
Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, described the situation as a “humanitarian disaster,” with rising deaths, disrupted education, and health workers fleeing the area.
“The attacks are worsening some now target security forces, which is a dangerous shift,” he said on Joy News’ PM Express. “Where are these military-style weapons coming from? The government must act fast to stop their flow.”
He condemned the politicization of the conflict, urging unity to resolve the crisis. While supporting the Otumfuo-led mediation, Fordjour stressed that disarmament and cutting off weapon supplies are critical for lasting peace.
“This isn’t about machetes anymore it’s sophisticated arms. Without decisive action, no peace effort will succeed,” he warned.
