Man Arrested for the Murder of His 13-Year-Old Daughter in Kokrobite

Police have arrested a man identified as Isaac Adonteng for the suspected murder of his 13 year old daughter, Celestine Adonteng, at Kokrobite in the Weija enclave of Accra.

A police statement indicates that early investigations point to severe physical abuse inflicted by the 54 year old mason, who allegedly beat the child with a cane, a metal pipe and other objects after accusing her of taking food intended for her younger sibling.

Despite the gravity of the injuries, the suspect is said to have failed to seek medical care and instead kept the girl confined in a room. Police officers, acting on a report, visited the home and found the victim unconscious. She was taken to the Police Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body has been placed in the morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Authorities retrieved several items from the scene, including a cutlass and a metal pipe, which investigators believe were used in the assault.

The Accra Regional Police Command has urged parents and guardians to avoid excessive force under the guise of discipline, stressing that such conduct is criminal and can result in devastating loss of life.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances leading to the girl’s death.
