Mahama in Abidjan for President Ouattara’s Swearing-In

President John Dramani Mahama has travelled to Abidjan, Ivory Coast, after a visit to Doha, Qatar, to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara as he begins a new term.

According to a statement from the Office of the President, the event is taking place on Monday, December 8, at the Presidential Palace in Abidjan.

The statement emphasized that President Mahama’s participation underscores the close diplomatic and economic relationship between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.

It added that a number of African leaders as well as international guests were expected to be present for the ceremony.

President Ouattara’s inauguration comes after his re-election, during which he secured 89.77 per cent of the vote, paving the way for his renewed mandate.

The occasion has been described as a significant event on the regional diplomatic calendar, drawing considerable attention.

Authorities in Abidjan have reportedly tightened security in preparation for the high-level gathering.

The statement further noted that President Mahama’s presence reflects Ghana’s dedication to strengthening cooperation with Ivory Coast in areas such as trade, security, and regional integration.

The investiture is also expected to present President Ouattara’s vision and key priorities for his new term in office.
