Leadership Is About Impact, Not Titles – Adutwum Shares Vision Ahead of NPP Race
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, has shared a people-centred vision of leadership as he seeks the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential slot ahead of the next general election.
According to Dr Adutwum, true leadership is measured not by titles, influence or personal advancement, but by the tangible impact a leader makes in the lives of ordinary people.
He stressed that leadership should be rooted in service, compassion and inclusiveness, rather than authority or status.
“Leadership is not about how far you climb, but about the number of lives you improve on the journey,” he said.
The former education minister highlighted listening as a core leadership skill, noting that effective governance requires leaders to actively engage citizens, understand their diverse concerns and respond with thoughtful, practical solutions.
He explained that in a complex and diverse society, leaders must be approachable and willing to learn from the people they serve.
“I believe in leading by listening, serving and standing side by side with the people,” Dr Adutwum said, adding that leadership should reflect empathy and shared responsibility.
He further noted that standing with the people means acknowledging their struggles and working collaboratively to overcome national challenges.
Dr Adutwum’s comments, shared under the hashtag #TheAdutwumFactor, capture the values shaping his campaign within the NPP, reinforcing a leadership approach grounded in humility, accountability and a strong commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians.
