Joshua beat Franklin via unanimous decision
Anthony Joshua marks his return to action with a unanimous decision victory over Jermaine Franklin, the judges scoring it 118-111, 117-111, 117-111 in favour of the former two-time world champion on Saturday 1st April 23 night after his back to back loss to Usyk. He looks comfortable throughout the fight. The fight seem to be purely a test fight and purposed to go all twelve rounds.
It looks like there is more in Joshua’s arsenals but he and his new coach Derrick James came to try and test what they’ve been working on in the ring against a formidable opponent like Jermaine Franklin.
The fight went smoothly even though both fighters could be seen talking to each other as well as taunting. The night was almost marred with a little scuffle at the end of the twelve round when Anthony Joshua poke Jermaine Franklin in the head. Looking at it, it looks like AJ poked JF as a banter in admiration of JF’s performance against him but it escalated and settled quickly as well. It was a good fight and the last two rounds was fantastic for both fighters. Jermaine Franklin is not a push over. He looks to be a real contender who can give a lot of the heavy weights out there a whole lot of problems. Interesting enough, some comments on the Internet seems to suggest Anthony Joshua was hurt before the fight. They alleged there was blood stains on AJ’s top before the fight – He has a bleeding nose. One can only look back at the ring walk to confirm this.
One obvious thing is, AJ didn’t look exhausted at all after the fight compared to his previous fights.
The training regime AJ’s new coach Derrick James has adopted seems to be working for him. AJ and Eddie Hearn confirmed Joshua will fight again in summer. As it stands, the boxing Community wants to see exactly where Anthony Joshua and his cool, calm and composed new coach Derrick James is going and what they have in store for his next fight in the summer. Anthony Joshua’s return to the ring with a win by unanimous decision is good for boxing – the fact remains he is the cash cow.
Well done to both fighters
