Is Kwadee’s Mum Really ‘The Problem’ of his problem? – Kwame Dadzie
For the last three days I’ve been tagged under Kwadee videos like this, with some asking that I add my voice to his condition.
You know why a lot of people in the creative industry now seem unconcerned about Kwadee’s situation? They are just tired! It’s always been a feeling of déjà vu when his videos pop up.
Abraham Ohene Djan, Lord Kenya, Hammer Nti, Quick Action, Ogunskele of 2Toff fame, and other people have tried to help Kwadee but some “inhibitions” killed their efforts.
Sometime last year, when I worked on a story about Kwadee’s situation, I was attacked by a radio presenter for posting a video that captured him bare-chested. This was when I was trying to connect a family member to GHAMRO so they could access his royalties. The family member I spoke with, failed to follow up on Kwadee’s royalties even after officials of the CMO had asked him to start the process of getting the money.
It is quite unfortunate that some people have discounted claims that Kwadee’s condition is a result of substance abuse. Meanwhile, there have been several reports that he only gets to his current state when he starts smoking “weed.”
You know why his mother doesn’t want some entertainment people close to him? She has said umpteenth time that Kwadee would be doing well at a rehab but the moment he starts moving with some of the entertainment people, he gets access to “weed” and then his situation gets worse.
Previously, I thought Kwadee’s mum was the problem; but she is not. The problem is how some of the people who go in to help him, are not able to restrict him from the thing that nudged him into the abyss.
If you allow people who claim “weed” doesn’t affect mental health to get close to Kwadee, his healing will be elusive.
It’s not easy to heal from substance abuse. So if we truly want him to get better, perhaps we shouldn’t be in a hurry to get him back to the music stage when he is taken to rehab and starts healing. Perhaps we should pay attention to his mother’s concerns. Perhaps he needs to be taken out of the country, to a whole new pristine environment where he wouldn’t have access to “his nemesis”. Or maybe he needs Christ!
