In an exclusive one-on-one interview on “The Hot Seat,” a flagship program of NSG News, Hon. Samuel Adongo, a candidate for the New Juaben North Constituency, boldly expressed his views on Ghana’s security, corruption, and the pressing issue of illegal gold mining (Galamsey). With a determination to bring change to his constituency, Hon. Adongo made some compelling statements and promises that shed light on his vision for the future.

Challenging the Status Quo: A Call for Action Beyond the MP Common Fund

Hon. Adongo did not mince words when addressing the challenges faced by most Members of Parliament (MPs) and government appointees. He raised concerns about what he perceives as a lack of initiative and overreliance on the MP Common Fund, which he described as insufficient to address the myriad problems within constituencies. “Most MPs or government appointees seem to be somewhat lazy,” he remarked, “because they only rely on the MP Common Fund, which is not even enough to solve the constituency’s problems.”

He assured his audience that, if elected, he would go beyond this traditional source of funding, leveraging the power vested in his office to work out practical solutions to build the New Juaben North constituency. “I will use the authority granted to me as an MP to bring real change to my people,” he promised.

A Leader for the People: Inspired by Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

Drawing inspiration from fellow politician Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who recently stood up for his constituency during the Volta River Authority (VRA) Dam spillage crisis, Hon. Adongo shared his vision of being a proactive leader. “That’s the type of leader I will be for my people if elected,” he stated. He envisions transforming the New Juaben North constituency into a model for others to learn from, a constituency that addresses its challenges head-on and provides a template for sustainable development.

Roads in Ruin: A Call for Infrastructure Development

On the issue of infrastructure, Hon. Adongo was direct in his criticism of the current state of roads in the New Juaben North constituency. He recounted several instances where he appealed to the incumbent MP to address the deplorable state of certain roads, but these calls went unanswered. “I have appealed several times for these roads to be fixed, but nothing was done, even to the extent of citizens demonstrating,” he said, expressing frustration over the lack of action.

Hon. Adongo stressed the need for urgent road repairs and vowed to prioritize infrastructure development to improve the quality of life for his constituents.

A Bold Agricultural Plan: Utilizing Resources for Jobs and Development

Hon. Adongo also spoke passionately about his vision for agricultural development in the New Juaben North constituency. He highlighted a unique opportunity at the Koforidua Prisons, which houses approximately 600 energetic and able-bodied inmates who could be mobilized for agricultural work. “Under my leadership, I will use my office as MP to acquire sophisticated agricultural equipment and engage these inmates in meaningful agricultural activities,” he explained.

He envisions training these inmates in sustainable farming practices, including establishing cassava plantations, to meet Ghana’s high demand for starch. “The major problem facing the New Juaben North Constituency is unemployment, and I believe farming can solve this problem since we have arable land,” he added.

Confronting Ghana’s Challenges: Security, Corruption, and Illegal Mining

Touching on broader national issues, Hon. Adongo expressed his concerns about Ghana’s security and corruption. He emphasized the need for transparency and accountability at all levels of government and pledged to be a leader who tackles corruption head-on. On the issue of illegal gold mining (galamsey), he called for stricter measures to protect Ghana’s natural resources and environment.

A Vision of Hope and Change

Hon. Samuel Adongo’s interview on “The Hot Seat” painted a vivid picture of his vision for New Juaben North. He presents himself as a leader who will go beyond mere rhetoric, taking concrete steps to bring real development to his constituency. With a focus on infrastructure, agriculture, and transparency, Hon. Adongo is positioning himself as a candidate who is ready to tackle the pressing issues of the day and lead his people toward a brighter future.

As the elections draw nearer, the people of New Juaben North will have the opportunity to decide whether Hon. Adongo’s vision aligns with their aspirations for their community. One thing is certain: his bold statements and commitment to action have set the stage for a new kind of leadership in Ghana.
