For a while now professor of applied economics of John Hopkins university Prof Steve Hanke has taken a special interest in Ghana’s economy, currency depreciation and inflation. Prof Hanke’s attention on Ghana deepen after the Covid-19 lockdowns and countries around the world including UK, USA, Germany, Japan, China and India have been battling inflation. The hot seat of NSG news took notice of Prof Hanke’s unacceptable behaviour towards Ghana’s leadership, financial institutions, economy, local currency depreciation and inflation and allege if Prof Steve Hanke is acting as a propagandist towards dollarization of Ghana – To make US dollar Ghana’s official currency. In an interview on Institute of International Monetary Research YouTube channel on the topic alternative monetary regimes to fight inflation in emerging economies, he stated amongst others, the nations to dollarize – “get rid of the local currency”. In effect, Ghana as an emerging economy should get rid of GHC and make USD the official currency. Prof Steve Hanke’s fixation and attacks on Ghana’s leadership, financial institutions, economy, local currency depreciation and inflation is unwavering.
He took to twitter again on 5th February 2023 he published his inflation figure for Ghana and took a swipe at Ghana statistical service – “The Ghana Statistical Service just keeps producing rubbish”
