Ghana Sprinters Blaze Into 2026 World Indoor Championships in Poland
Ghana’s sprint contingent has made an explosive start to the 2026 indoor season, with four athletes sealing qualification for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 scheduled for March 20–22 in Toruń, Poland.
The championships will be staged at the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena, where the world’s fastest indoor athletes will converge and Ghana’s sprinters are arriving in red-hot form.
Ghana’s 60m Trio Among World’s Fastest
The men’s 60m has become a showcase of Ghana’s sprint depth.
- Saminu Abdul-Rasheed stormed to a personal best of 6.54 seconds at the Jarvis Scott Invitational in Lubbock, Texas — a world-leading time at the moment it was recorded and well inside the 6.59 qualifying standard.
- Barnabas Kobby Asante Aggerh followed closely with 6.57 seconds.
- Mustapha Alufar Bopkin secured his spot with an exact 6.59 seconds.
All three now sit comfortably among the global elite on current performance lists, underlining Ghana’s growing status as a sprint powerhouse on the international stage.
Britton Punches Ticket in 60m Hurdles
Completing Ghana’s quartet is Evonne Fatimah Britton, who qualified in the women’s 60m hurdles with a sharp 7.99 seconds.
American-born Britton officially switched allegiance to Ghana in April 2024 and has since added valuable experience to the national setup. A former World U20 silver medallist in the 400m hurdles, she later transitioned to the short hurdles, where she previously finished runner-up at the USA Indoor Championships.
Now representing Ghana on the global stage, Britton’s qualification strengthens the country’s medal ambitions indoors.
Eyes on Poland
With just weeks to go before the championships in Toruń, Team Ghana heads into the global showdown brimming with confidence. The combination of explosive sprint speed and hurdle precision signals strong medal potential as the Black Star prepares to shine under the indoor spotlight.
If early-season form is anything to go by, Ghana won’t just be participating in Poland they’ll be contending.
