The Management of Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced a major disruption in water supply to several parts of Accra following a fire outbreak at the Dodowa Booster Station.

The incident, which occurred over the weekend, forced the shutdown of operations at the facility to allow repair works to begin. Officials say the damage was severe enough to halt pumping entirely, cutting off water to thousands of households, institutions, and businesses across the northeastern corridor of the capital.

In a statement, management assured the public that restoration works are ongoing. “A team of engineers is currently on site working tirelessly and around the clock to restore the system to its full functionality,” the statement said.

The Dodowa Booster Station is one of the key installations feeding parts of Accra, and its shutdown has left many communities without water. Areas directly affected include East Legon, Agbogba, Haatso, Atomic, Frafraha, Ashaley Botwe, Adjiringanor, Ashongman, Dome, Adenta, Madina, Oyarifa, and surrounding neighborhoods. Residents in these communities are expected to experience either very low pressure or no water flow until the situation is resolved.

Acknowledging the impact of the outage, GWL expressed regret over the inconvenience. “Management of Ghana Water Ltd regrets the inconvenience this unforeseen development may cause and appeals to customers to bear with the situation. We wish to assure the public that every effort is being made to rectify the fault in the shortest time possible and to restore regular water supply,” it added.

To cushion the impact, especially on critical institutions, the company is rolling out contingency measures to ensure uninterrupted water supply to hospitals, schools, and other essential service providers. GWL has also advised institutions likely to run out of water storage to immediately reach out for support.

Customers in need of assistance have been directed to contact their Municipal Chief Executives, Assembly Members, or call the GWL service hotlines on 0207385089, 0207385090, and 0302218240 for emergency supply arrangements.

With repair works underway, GWL has assured the public of its commitment to restoring services as quickly as possible. However, it has urged residents to use the little water they have stored judiciously until full supply is restored.
