The Grave Crisis Facing Ghana; Environmental Degradation and Economic Instability

The Chief Executive Officer of TSL Sustainability Limited, Dr. Ing. Shelter Lotsu, spoke today at the official press launch of the 1st Africa Global Environmental, Social, Governance, and Sustainability Reporting Summit as the chairman. The theme of the summit is “Sustainable Development: ESG Reporting, EU Taxonomy, and Strategy.”

Scheduled for September 1st and 2nd, 2025, at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, the summit aims to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship, corporate success with social responsibility, and short-term gains with long-term governance excellence.

According to Dr. Lotsu, Africa and Ghana, in particular, are blessed with immense natural resources critical to the global energy transition, presenting a unique opportunity for Africa to play a central role in the world’s journey towards a cleaner, greener future. However, he noted that alongside this blessing lies a grave crisis that is destroying public health, undermining the economic foundation, and destroying water bodies, which needs to be addressed immediately for the sake of future generations.

Dr. Lotsu further explained that the 1st Global ESG and Sustainability Reporting Summit will serve as a solutions marketplace, bringing together African and global leaders, investors, regulators, academia, and civil society to engage in reversing ESG-related issues in the country. The summit calls for national collaboration among state institutions, private sector organizations, civil society groups, and other organizations whose mandate aligns with ESG and sustainability to combine forces to combat pollution, restore sanitary conditions, and drive regenerative growth. This collaboration aims to prevent reputational damage and operational costs caused by environmental degradation, social unrest, and governance failures in Africa and Ghana.
