Economic Troubles and Corruption in Ghana
The Hot Seat of NSG News looks at how corruption is the major contributing factor to Ghana’s economic downturn and troubles. Corruption is alsk noted as the bane of developmental and infrastructural deficit.
The hot seat acknowledges the fact that corruption is everywhere all over the world and different types exist – from petty to grand corruption. However, the peculiar nature of grand corruption in Ghana and Africa for that matter make it a major problem and a stumbling block to economic development and growth.
Corruption in developed countries benefits their economy as the proceeds of the corruption stays within the country and feeding the economy in question – but the corruption in Ghana and Africa suffocates the economy as the proceeds of the corruption is kept abroad.
Reports indicate previous corrupt African leaders the proceeds of their corruption in the west (USA, Europe, UK) Corruption is noted as the reason for abandoned projects due to cronyism, nepotism and authoritarian behaviour from political leadership in Ghana and Africa for that matter.
Corruption is the reason there is no long lasting effect and impression of Ghana’s endless natural resources.
Reference is made to a statement made by Prof Kwesi Aning – Head of the department of research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping training centre statement on joy news file “corruption is the glue that binds this country” referring to Ghana.
Corruption is normally used as campaign promises yet corruption is on the rise unabated.
Question is what can Ghana do about corruption and who are behind the grand corruptions?
God bless mother Ghana and long live the fourth Republic.
