Accra, Ghana – The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) marked its 25th anniversary with a grand celebration, attended by several distinguished personalities. The event was graced by the presence of Hon. Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Senior Advisor to President Nana Akufo-Addo; Dr. Justice M.Y. Amegashie Esq, a former CEO of DVLA; Prof. Stephen Adei; Rt. Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament; and Prof. Gordon A. Awandare, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs at the University of Ghana.

The highlight of the event was the address by the current CEO of DVLA, Mr. Kwasi Agyeman Busia, who acknowledged the efforts of his predecessors in building the institution and pledged the Authority’s continued commitment to providing excellent service to the public.

Mr. Busia emphasized the DVLA’s commitment to ensuring road safety for all commuters, reaffirming the Authority’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards of service. He also took the opportunity to reflect on the Authority’s journey, acknowledging that in 2016, the DVLA was listed by Transparency International as one of the most corrupt institutions in Ghana.

However, through extensive policy reforms and collaboration with the Ministry of Road and Transport, the DVLA transformed its operations and achieved a remarkable turnaround. “Three years later, in 2023, Transparency International awarded the DVLA as the Best Public Administration,” Mr. Busia proudly noted.

He also highlighted the Authority’s investment in data collection centers as part of its strategic vision to reshape the DVLA into a modern, efficient institution. “Our goal is to become the best service provider to the citizens of Ghana,” he stated, outlining a future where the DVLA remains a pillar of trust in the eyes of the public.

Mr. Busia concluded his speech with a renewed commitment to the DVLA’s mission of upholding integrity, transparency, and excellence. As the Authority moves forward, it aims to build on its achievements and maintain its status as a trusted and reliable institution for all road users in Ghana.

The celebration of DVLA’s 25th anniversary was not only a moment to honor its past achievements but also an opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to serving the people of Ghana with dedication and integrity.
