The Accra High Court has postponed its decision on an application seeking to stop the release of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu’s body, widely known as Daddy Lumba, until Friday, December 12.

The application was filed by members of the musician’s maternal family, who insist that according to Akan custom, the maternal lineage has full authority over funeral rites. They argue that no other party has the right to take custody of the body or preside over arrangements for his final rites.

The judge deferred the ruling after listening to submissions from all sides. The court will decide who is legally recognised to take charge of the funeral, manage any memorial-related affairs, and receive the musician’s remains.

Speaking after the proceedings, Kweku Emmanuel Debrah, representing the Family Head and first defendant, said the family accepts the court’s process and is hopeful for harmony.

He stated that the family is prepared to accept whatever decision the court makes and emphasised the importance of unity. He noted that a misunderstanding led to the legal action and that the family ultimately aims to move forward together.

Highlife artist Papa Shee, who attended the hearing to support the applicants, also expressed confidence in a favourable outcome. He welcomed the judge’s decision to deliver the ruling on Friday and said he believes the applicants will succeed.
