Lawyer for the former Director of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, says developments in court are unexpectedly strengthening his client’s case rather than weakening it.

On Thursday, December 18, legal counsel Samuel Atta Akyea revealed that testimony from the prosecution’s second witness has largely supported the defence’s position, even though the defence is yet to formally present its case.

According to Mr Atta Akyea, the witness who was called by the prosecution—provided explanations he described as “highly exculpatory,” offering clarity that aligns with Mr Adu-Boahene’s actions and conduct while in office.

He noted that the testimony touched on sensitive national security matters and, in his view, reinforced the former NSB Director’s professional integrity and decision-making during his tenure.

“So far, we have not mounted our defence,” he explained. “Ironically, it is the prosecution’s second witness who is explaining issues in a manner that is very exculpatory of our client. We have said nothing, yet the witness called to testify against him is shedding light on matters that are consistent with our client’s role and reputation.”

Mr Atta Akyea suggested that the unfolding testimony underscores weaknesses in the prosecution’s case and provides important context regarding the national security considerations surrounding Mr Adu-Boahene’s actions.

The case is expected to continue, with the defence set to formally present its arguments at the appropriate stage of the proceedings.
