CDD-Ghana: High Election Costs Fuel Corruption, Presidency Costs $150M

The Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has revealed staggering campaign costs in Ghana’s elections:
- $150 million to win the presidency
- $650,000 (GH¢10 million) per parliamentary seat
Dr. Kojo Asante, CDD’s Director of Programmes, warned these exorbitant costs are fueling corruption, as politicians seek to recoup investments after taking office.
“These massive campaign expenditures create perverse incentives for corruption among elected officials,” Asante told the Constitutional Review Committee. The findings highlight growing concerns about money’s influence in Ghanaian politics
