Presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has dismissed what he describes as false accusations and smear campaigns targeted at him in the party’s internal flagbearer race.

The backlash follows a video circulating on social media, which appeared to suggest that Dr. Acheampong blamed fellow aspirant, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for the Mamprusi-Kusasi conflict in the north. His campaign team has, however, rejected the claims, describing the footage as “mischievously pieced together and venomously captioned.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, the Abetifi MP said he remains focused on his campaign despite what he called a barrage of attacks and falsehoods.

“Yes, I have come under a barrage of attacks. Falsehoods have been spread about me. Fake materials have been shared to question my character. But through it all, I remain focused, not on retaliation, but on restoration,” he said.

Dr. Acheampong emphasized that the flagbearer contest must be anchored on ideas and vision, not personal attacks. He also appealed to his supporters to exercise discipline and avoid offensive behavior.

“I respectfully call on all who support me to refrain from intemperate language, personal attacks, and the circulation of false materials. Let us not mirror the tactics we seek to rise above,” he cautioned.

He stressed that his campaign goes beyond winning the slot, insisting it is about building unity within the NPP.

“We are building something far greater than a campaign. We are building a movement to unite and rebuild our beloved New Patriotic Party. Let our words heal, not harm. Let our actions inspire, not inflame,” he said.
