Bolgatanga Technical Institute Reopens; Male Students to Pay GH¢1,000 for Damages
The Bolgatanga Technical Institute has issued an immediate recall order for all second- and third-year students following violent disturbances that erupted on campus in mid-August.
Mandatory Damage Fee for Male Students
School authorities have announced that every male student will be required to pay GH¢1,000 as a damage fee before being permitted back on campus. According to management, the directive is based on an assessment of property destruction linked to the unrest.
Officials say the payment is essential to help repair damaged facilities and restore normal operations.
Incident That Triggered the Decision
The recall comes after a violent student riot from Thursday, August 14 to Friday, August 15, 2025, which resulted in extensive damage to school property. Parts of the institution caught fire, including the senior headmaster’s office and the school library.
Management’s Position
Administrators say the strict measures are meant to:
- Reinforce discipline,
- Facilitate a smooth resumption of academic activities, and
- Prevent future disruptions.
The school also indicated that additional disciplinary measures may be rolled out as investigations into the incident continue.
