Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has rejected allegations that state investigative agencies are being deployed to intimidate or silence Minority Members of Parliament.

Speaking during his closing remarks as Parliament rose for the year, Mr Ayariga described the claims as unfounded, insisting that such practices are alien to his experience in the House.

Drawing on nearly 20 years in Parliament, he said he has served under different capacities as an opposition MP, a minister of state, and now as Majority Leader without witnessing any attempt to use investigations as a tool to suppress dissent.

“I have been in this House for close to two decades, both in opposition and in government, and I have never seen anything like that,” he told the chamber.

His comments came amid growing political debate over the activities of investigative bodies and their perceived impact on parliamentary opposition.

Meanwhile, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin used his own valedictory address to shift attention to the personal well-being of lawmakers.

He urged MPs to take advantage of the recess period to rest, reconnect with their families, and prioritise their health after months of intense parliamentary work.

According to him, public service often comes at a personal cost, and lawmakers must be proactive about their physical and mental well-being.

“Please spend time with your families. We have worked hard enough,” he said, encouraging colleagues to undertake medical check-ups and address health concerns early.

Mr Afenyo-Markin reminded MPs of the fragility of life, noting that constitutional processes ensure continuity even when individuals are gone.

“Life will go on without you. It is better to know your medical condition and treat it than to live in fear of the unknown,” he cautioned.

The House subsequently adjourned, bringing parliamentary business for the year to a close.
