Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III Passes Away at Age 98
The Asante Kingdom has been plunged into mourning following the death of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III. The sad news was formally announced by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, during a meeting of the Asanteman Council at the Manhyia Palace, which brought together paramount chiefs and representatives of all clans.
According to the announcement, a one-week observance will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, in honour of the late Queen Mother, who died on Thursday, August 7, at the age of 98.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III ascended to the role of Queen Mother in 2017, following the passing of Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II in 2016. Her official outdooring coincided with the 67th birthday celebration of her brother, the Asantehene, and the commissioning of a renovated ceremonial park named after her predecessor. Situated opposite the Manhyia Museum, the park features a pristine artificial turf and has since become a venue for many royal and cultural events.
Throughout her reign, Nana Konadu Yiadom III was admired for her wisdom, leadership, and unwavering dedication to protecting the traditions and heritage of the Ashanti people. She remained a constant source of counsel and support to the Asantehene, strengthening the unity of the kingdom.
Her passing marks a significant moment in the history of the Ashanti Kingdom, bringing to a close a chapter defined by grace, cultural pride, and service to her people.
