The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called on the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to summon the management of three major hospitals over the alleged denial of emergency medical care to a hit-and-run victim, Charles Amissah.

The hospitals named are Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Police Hospital, and Greater Accra Regional Hospital.

According to the Effutu Member of Parliament, the incident, which occurred on February 6, 2026, reportedly resulted in Amissah’s death after he was allegedly denied treatment at the facilities.

Addressing Parliament, Afenyo-Markin insisted that the matter must not go unresolved and that any individual found culpable should face sanctions to serve as a deterrent.

He urged the Speaker to direct the Health Committee to summon the Chief Executive Officers and heads of the emergency units of the three hospitals. He further requested that duty rosters and bed occupancy records for the night in question be presented to establish the facts.

The Minority Leader also called for a determination of whether the 2018 Ghana Health Service directive on emergency care was breached, and whether professional misconduct or negligence occurred. He stressed that sanctions must follow if misconduct is established, while proven negligence should lead to prosecution.

In addition, he appealed to the Ghana Police Service to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend the driver responsible for the hit-and-run incident.
