The legal team of former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has announced plans to challenge his remand in police custody following a court ruling over a land dispute at Kitase in the Eastern Region.

According to his lawyers, an appeal will be filed on March 17 at the Koforidua High Court to overturn the decision by the Akropong Circuit Court and secure his release.

Background to the case

Freddie Blay was remanded on Monday, March 16, after appearing before the Akropong Circuit Court in connection with a dispute involving a parcel of land at Kitase.

The case reportedly began after an individual claiming ownership of the land filed a complaint with the police, alleging unlawful activity on the property.

Following the complaint, police invited Mr Blay to assist with investigations, but the situation escalated, leading to his arrest and subsequent court appearance.

Legal team challenges decision

After hearing preliminary details, the court ordered that Freddie Blay be remanded while investigations continue.

However, his lawyer, Gregory Asiedu, described the decision as unfortunate and argued that the remand was not justified.

He indicated that the legal team is confident a higher court will review the matter and grant appropriate relief.

Appeal underway

Speaking after proceedings, Gregory Asiedu confirmed that preparations were already underway to challenge the ruling.

“The appeal will be filed at the High Court in Koforidua,” he said, noting that the team will seek a review of the remand order and request bail for their client.

The case is expected to continue as legal processes unfold in the Eastern Region.
