The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has urged Ghanaians to remain patient as the government works to strengthen the economy and create more employment opportunities for the country’s youth.

His comments follow concerns over the limited number of positions available in the ongoing security services recruitment exercise.

Concerns over security recruitment numbers

According to the Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, nearly 500,000 people applied for the recruitment exercise, but only about 5,000 positions are available for final enlistment.

He revealed that more than 105,000 applicants progressed to the medical stage of the recruitment process despite the limited vacancies.

Call for patience

Speaking to party supporters in Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah cautioned against frustration and urged citizens to allow time for government policies to produce results.

He explained that creating sustainable employment opportunities requires a strong economic foundation and adequate financial resources.

“The anger will not solve the problem. Without sufficient funds, how can we employ more than necessary? Fixing issues takes time. The first priority is to strengthen the economy, and John Dramani Mahama is working diligently on this,” he said.

Mr Nketiah added that the government’s efforts to stabilise the economy are beginning to yield results and could eventually create more opportunities for young people.

Minority demands refund for applicants

Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament of Ghana has called on the Ministry of the Interior to refund approximately GH¢113 million collected from applicants who did not qualify in the recruitment process.

The Minority argues that applicants who were unsuccessful in the process should not lose the fees they paid during the recruitment exercise.
