The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has warned that its members could lose part of their pension benefits if the government fails to implement a revised salary structure and improved conditions of service.

The Deputy Executive Director of the association, William Kodzo Krakani, said delays in implementing the agreed salary framework could negatively affect the retirement benefits of civil and local government staff.

Speaking to Citi News on Thursday, March 12, Mr Krakani noted that although the current administration did not begin negotiations on the new salary structure, it remains responsible for ensuring its implementation.

He stressed that governance is a continuous process and agreements reached by previous administrations must be honoured.

Pension concerns raised

Mr Krakani warned that if the revised salary structure is not implemented, many members could retire without receiving the full pension benefits they are entitled to.

According to him, the association is demanding that government immediately act on the agreement to protect the financial security of its members after retirement.

Strike disrupts services in Ho

Meanwhile, a visit to several public institutions in Ho, the capital of the Volta Region, revealed significant service disruptions.

Offices at the Ho Municipal Assembly and other public institutions remained closed as workers continued a strike that began earlier in the week.

CLOGSAG members have withdrawn their services as part of efforts to pressure the government to implement the revised salary structure and address their concerns.

“The public should ask the government why they are not paying us,” Mr Krakani said.

Workers vow to continue strike

Mr Krakani emphasised that members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana will maintain their strike action until the government takes concrete steps to implement the agreed salary adjustments and improve working conditions.

The association believes the move is necessary to safeguard the welfare and retirement security of civil and local government employees across Ghana.
