Mahama: Empowering Women Key to Ghana’s Growth
President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to prioritise empowering women, stressing that expanding opportunities and resources for women will lead to broader national development in Ghana.
In a Facebook message on Sunday, March 8, to commemorate International Women’s Day 2026, the President said the nation stands to gain significantly when women are given the support needed to succeed.
Empowering women benefits the nation
According to President Mahama, empowering women has repeatedly demonstrated far-reaching benefits that go beyond individual success, often transforming families and entire communities.
“When we give opportunities, resources, and unwavering support to our women, we gain as a country. We have seen time and again that when women are empowered, entire families and communities are transformed,” he stated.
Removing barriers for women and girls
The President also called on citizens and institutions to actively work toward removing the barriers that prevent women and girls from reaching their full potential.
He emphasised the importance of creating clear pathways that allow women to thrive across different sectors of society, noting that an inclusive environment would enable every Ghanaian woman and girl to contribute meaningfully to national growth.
“Give to Gain” theme highlighted
Reflecting on this year’s theme for International Women’s Day 2026, “Give to Gain,” President Mahama said investing in women is not only a social responsibility but also a strategic national priority.
“As we observe International Women’s Day 2026 under the theme ‘Give to Gain,’ let us remember that every investment we make in empowering our mothers, sisters, and daughters multiplies into prosperity for our entire nation,” he added.
Global celebration of women
International Women’s Day, marked annually on March 8, celebrates the achievements of women while advocating for gender equality and expanded opportunities for women and girls worldwide.
