The Central Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has arrested six students in connection with the alleged assault of a final-year student of Adisadel College in Cape Coast.

According to a police statement dated February 24, the suspects — all students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School were handed over to the Kotokuraba Police Station by school authorities on the evening of February 20. The arrests followed reports that they had attacked Rexford Owusu Ansah at Pedu Junction earlier that day.

Preliminary investigations suggest the incident occurred after the final day of an inter-colleges sports festival held at the Cape Coast Stadium. The victim was reportedly leaving the venue with two friends when the suspects confronted them, allegedly to confirm whether they were students of Adisadel College, before launching the attack.

Police say the victim’s companions managed to escape, but he was overpowered, beaten and robbed of his mobile phone, shoes and approximately GH¢1,400 in cash.

He sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at the stadium clinic before being referred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital. He was discharged on February 22.

Medical reports indicate that the student suffered a fractured bone near his right eye, leaving him unable to open it, with concerns about potential damage to the eyeball.

The Central Regional Police Command has condemned the violence and assured the public that due process will be followed. Authorities emphasised that the suspects, though juveniles, will face the full rigours of the law if found culpable. Investigations remain ongoing.
