Former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu, has been arrested and detained in the United States, pending extradition to Ghana to serve a 10-year prison sentence imposed in absentia.

Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, confirmed in a statement dated January 15, 2026, that Tamakloe-Attionu is being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Center in Pahrump. He said she was arrested by U.S. Marshals on January 6, acting on an extradition request submitted by Ghanaian authorities in July 2024.

Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in April 2024 alongside former MASLOC COO Daniel Axim on 78 counts, including causing financial loss to the state, stealing, money laundering, conspiracy, and procurement breaches. The offences occurred between 2013 and 2016.

She was tried in absentia after failing to return to Ghana from medical travel abroad. Following her conviction, the state secured an arrest warrant to facilitate her capture and extradition.

The court found that hundreds of thousands of cedis in MASLOC funds were misappropriated, including money meant for loans, public sensitisation, and victims of the Kantamanso fire disaster, as well as inflated procurement of vehicles and mobile phones.

With her detention confirmed, extradition proceedings under the Ghana–U.S. treaty are now underway. If extradited, she will return to Ghana to serve her sentence with hard labour.
