US VP Kamala Harris in Ghana, The Visit of Judas or The Savior?

2

US Vice president Kamala Harris arrived in Ghana 26th March 2023 – first stop of her three-nation African tour – it is hoped, this is the visit of the Saviour not Judas.
From previous accounts which are common knowledge, when the USA takes a keen interest in a particular country, it is either to impose an ideology or a foreign policy that keep the country in question under sustained economic servitude.

It is hoped the working visit of Kamala Harris is the dawn of a new era where Ghana and her people are recognised and valued accordingly. For a while now it seems Ghana is high on the radar of the US as far as the interest of US is concerned. Previous presidents of the US such as Bill Clinton and Barack Obama were in Ghana. The question is, what did this previous visits brought to Ghana and exactly what is Kamala Harris’ working visit to Ghana going to bring? Is it only for the purpose of US interest or this visit is different and will save Ghana from economic servitude?

Many are the speculations as to what Barack Obama’s visit to Ghana has caused. It is often said, America’s interest in a country mostly it is to the benefit of America. To extend and sustain its ideologies, agendas and foreign policies which turn to disadvantage the country. Could this visit to Ghana be for the same reasons?

The uncontrolled spread of the people’s republic of China PRC with its initiatives and influence in Ghana and the African continent is of great concern to America and for that reason US held an all African leaders summit recently – Could this concern be the sole reason Kamala Harris is in Ghana?
Since the visit of previous US presidents, Ghana’s economic trajectory has not change for the better and even the presence of the so called “first Black President” in the White House did not make any difference at all – if anything, the speculation is, it has made the situation worse for Ghana.

Previous diplomatic visits from the white house to Ghana was the Air Force One and the president but this time, the vice present – either the US president Joe Biden is not fit to travel to Ghana or Ghana is not that important after all. It is hoped Ghana’s leaders who will be involved in any bilateral talks will not cower in inferiority complex but to exercise some level of patriotism in solidarity with the content of Ghana’s powerful national anthem “bold to defend forever and to resist the oppressor’s rule” to prevent Ghana from becoming a poppet tossed to-and-fro between two economic giants – USA and PRC.

Ghana and Africa for that matter has been at the receiving end of neo-colonialism for all these years and it doesn’t look like it is stopping any time soon – Neo-colonialism has turned natural resource rich Ghana and Africa into beggars and the effect is struggling economy, lack of proper development and infrastructural deficit across all sectors – It is a tragedy.

In all the excitement of the first US lady vice president Kamala Harris on a working visit to Ghana, these questions remain – to what end ,in whose interest and any meaningful benefit for Ghana ?

Till we come your way with another patriotic view, God bless Mother Ghana, long live the fourth republic.

    1. So far LGBTQ+ seems to dominate the conversation since Kamala Harris’ arrival in Ghana. It seems that is the purpose of her visit. It is a shame that in all the challenges Ghana is facing economically, LGBTQ+ seems more importanr .
