The Supreme Court has ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to immediately suspend all preparations toward the planned parliamentary rerun in the Kpandai constituency.

The directive restrains the EC from taking any steps to organise or conduct the rerun until the court has fully determined the matter before it. This effectively puts the proposed election on hold.

When the case was called on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the apex court adjourned proceedings to January 13, 2026, to allow the justices adequate time to study the legal issues raised by the parties.

The parliamentary rerun was scheduled following disputes arising from the 2024 parliamentary election results in Kpandai, a move that subsequently triggered legal challenges.

With the Supreme Court’s intervention, the EC is now legally barred from proceeding with the rerun until a final determination is made. The outcome of the case is expected to have significant implications for electoral dispute resolution in the constituency.
