Police Arrest Three Suspected Kidnappers After Fierce Gun Battle in Northern Region
The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers following an intelligence-led operation that ended in a dramatic armed confrontation at Bokpaba, a community along the Bimbilla Yendi section of the Eastern Corridor.
The suspects identified as Haruna Seidu, Amidu Bandi, and Osman Bandi are believed to be part of a four-member kidnapping syndicate that abducted a 42-year-old man from Wapuli in the Yendi District. Police say the group demanded a GH¢100,000 ransom from the victim’s family.
In a statement issued on Monday, December 8, the Command explained that after receiving the distress report, the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (RPID) deployed a specialised five-member team to Wapuli. Their mission was to conduct surveillance, rescue the victim, and apprehend the perpetrators.
The operation reached its peak on Friday, December 5, when officers clashed with the suspects, triggering a fierce gun battle. Despite the exchange of heavy gunfire, police managed to rescue the victim unharmed and arrest three members of the syndicate.

The fourth suspect, whose name has not been disclosed, escaped during the shootout and is believed to have sustained gunshot wounds. Police are urging residents in Wapuli, Bimbilla, and Yendi and nearby communities to report any suspicious individuals who may be seeking medical help or shelter.
The arrested suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned before court in the coming days as investigations continue.
The Northern Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to clamping down on violent crime, assuring the public that intelligence-led operations will remain central to efforts aimed at enhancing safety across the region.
