The Ministry of Health has confirmed that salaries have been processed and paid for more than 6,000 newly recruited nurses across the country. The figure forms part of the 13,500 nurses engaged nationwide as government moves to clear all outstanding issues related to their recruitment and placement.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, the Ministry assured the public and relevant stakeholders that administrative procedures for the remaining nurses are being finalised and will be resolved in the coming days.

Medical officers urged to report to duty by December 12

The release also commended newly posted medical officers who have already reported to their duty stations. Those who have not yet assumed duty have been given up to Friday, December 12, 2025, to do so. The Ministry explained that the extended reporting deadline is intended to ensure a fair and balanced distribution of health professionals across all regions.

It stressed that the recent postings are not punitive but part of efforts to guarantee equitable allocation of human resources for health, particularly in underserved and hard-to-reach communities. Families of posted officers were encouraged to support their relatives to settle into their new work environments.

MMDCES urged to provide incentives for rural postings

The Ministry further appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives to provide support packages such as housing, transportation, and essential amenities to help attract and retain health workers in rural areas where staffing gaps remain a challenge.

Reaffirming its position, the Ministry stated that no alterations will be made to the current postings, emphasizing its commitment to strengthening the national health workforce and improving access to quality healthcare across Ghana.
