Police Capture Fugitive Linked to Killing of FRSC Officer and Child
Ghana’s efforts to deepen regional security cooperation have taken a significant step forward with the arrest of a Nigerian fugitive linked to a double murder case in Ogun State.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command has confirmed the capture of Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum, a 26-year-old suspect accused of abducting and killing a female Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer and her daughter in Abeokuta. The case drew national attention in Nigeria after a viral video reported that the suspect had gone into hiding following the crime.
Fejemirokum was traced to Akyem Wenchi near Akwatia, where he was secretly lodging with a friend. Police apprehended him during an intelligence-led operation, highlighting the growing effectiveness of information-sharing between security agencies in Ghana and Nigeria.
Speaking at a media briefing, Regional Commander DCOP George Ohene-Boadi said Ghana is committed to supporting neighbouring countries in cases where criminal networks operate across borders. He noted that Ghanaian police remain in constant contact with Nigerian authorities as the extradition process is expedited.
“We are working closely with our counterparts in Nigeria to ensure the suspect is handed over for prosecution,” he stated.
The Commander also emphasised the role of surveillance systems, coordinated intelligence operations, and cross-border monitoring in the arrest. He urged citizens to assist law enforcement by reporting unusual activities or suspicious individuals, especially in communities located near informal crossing points.
Security analysts say the case is likely to strengthen bilateral efforts to curb transnational fugitives, organised crime, and emerging security threats across West Africa.
Fejemirokum is currently in custody and will be transferred to Nigerian officials once the necessary procedures are completed.
