Ghana is deepening labour relations with Qatar as part of broader plans to expand overseas employment opportunities for skilled Ghanaian professionals. This follows a meeting between Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Qatar’s Undersecretary for Labour, Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al Thani.

The discussions centred on advancing Ghana’s Labour Export Programme, with Qatari authorities expressing strong interest in recruiting workers from Ghana in key sectors such as health, tourism, information technology, transport and logistics.

According to an official statement, the engagement reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to building cooperation that benefits their citizens and supports long term workforce development.

Once fully finalised and ratified, the agreement will provide a structured framework for the recruitment and protection of Ghanaian workers in Qatar. It will also set clear guidelines on welfare and labour standards to ensure that Ghanaian professionals working in the Gulf state are safeguarded throughout their employment.
