AfDB Grants $70 Million to Empower Youth and Boost Development in Northern Ghana

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a US$70 million grant to fund youth empowerment initiatives across the five regions of Northern Ghana, according to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

In a statement shared on Thursday, November 6, 2025, after a meeting with Eyerusalem Fasika, the AfDB Country Manager, Mr. Ablakwa announced that the grant will support programmes designed to equip young people with essential skills, vocational training, and opportunities to enhance their economic livelihoods.

He further disclosed that the AfDB has pledged its support for key development initiatives under President Mahama’s administration, including the Big Push Project, the 24-Hour Economy Policy, the Feed Ghana Programme, and the 1-Million Coders Programme.

The Minister also reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to critical infrastructure projects such as the Lagos–Abidjan Road Network and the Eastern Corridor Project, which runs through parts of the Volta Region, including his constituency.

According to Mr. Ablakwa, the AfDB currently has about US$600 million invested in active projects across Ghana. These investments span sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, youth development, and social welfare.
