Akwatia By-Election: NPP’s Salam Mustapha Raises Concerns Over Alleged NDC ‘Machomen’
The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of deploying vigilante-style groups, commonly referred to as “machomen,” to disrupt voting in the ongoing Akwatia by-election.
Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday at the Wenchi Presby electoral area, Mr. Mustapha claimed the men were brought in to intimidate voters in what he described as an attempt to reduce turnout in an NPP stronghold.
“This is our stronghold, so clearly there are attempts to suppress the vote and take advantage of that. I will not allow it,” he said, adding that security officers at the scene had already begun stepping up their presence.
He further insisted that despite NDC’s denials, their operatives were visible at the polling center. “They said they didn’t bring ‘machomen,’ but here they are. They should stop pretending,” he remarked.
Mr. Mustapha, however, expressed confidence in the security agencies to contain the situation and ensure a peaceful process. “So far, it’s under control, and I trust the security to handle things,” he added.
