President John Dramani Mahama has directed stronger security measures and dispatched a mediation team to the Sawla-Bole area of the Savannah Region, where renewed clashes between the Gonja and Brifor communities have heightened tensions.

The President, who returned from an official visit to Singapore earlier this week, was immediately briefed by security chiefs on the disturbances. While abroad, he also held a telephone discussion with the Yagbonwura, Jira Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, on how to de-escalate the conflict.

According to a statement signed by Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, a delegation led by Interior Minister Alhaji Muntaka Mohamed-Mubarak has been tasked to engage traditional rulers, community leaders, and the Savannah Regional Security Council to chart a path toward reconciliation.

To stabilize the area, additional police and military personnel have been deployed. The President has appealed to both factions to cooperate fully with mediation efforts, stressing that government remains committed to restoring calm and ensuring lasting peace.

Local authorities and traditional leaders are expected to work closely with the visiting delegation as part of the broader effort to end the hostilities and return normal life to Sawla and Bole.
