PAC Queries YEA Over 72% Rent Hike
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has questioned the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) over a steep rise in its rent expenditure, which jumped from GH¢3.2 million in 2023 to GH¢5.5 million in 2024.
YEA officials, appearing before the Committee on Friday, August 22, 2025, explained that the increase followed the Ministry of Works and Housing’s decision in 2023 to transfer management of the Agency’s office facility to private developers, Messrs K&A Developers.
Members of the Committee expressed concern that YEA did not resist or negotiate against the sharp rent increment, which they said places an unnecessary financial burden on the Agency.
In his response, the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, said talks were ongoing with the Office of the Chief of Staff to secure a permanent office for YEA.
“The CEO and I have engaged with the Chief of Staff on getting permanent accommodation for the Agency. In due time, we will report to this House on the plans made and facilities secured,” he assured.
