NCA Moves to Suspend Multichoice Ghana’s Broadcasting Licence Over Pricing Concerns
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has taken regulatory action against Multichoice Ghana Limited, operators of DStv Ghana, over concerns about its pricing model.
In a press release issued on August 7, 2025, the NCA announced it had served Multichoice with notice of its intention to suspend the company’s Subscription Management Service authorisation for Satellite Television Broadcasting (Pay TV Direct-to-Home Bouquet).
The regulatory move is being pursued under Section 13 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), which empowers the NCA to act when a service provider’s operations are deemed contrary to the public interest. According to the Authority, Multichoice Ghana’s pricing structure falls into this category.
Per the notice, the company has 30 days to present its position, propose remedial actions, or submit formal objections to the suspension. Failure to do so could result in the withdrawal of its broadcasting licence.
Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, also confirmed the development, stating that the NCA has officially directed DStv Ghana to address the issues within the legal timeframe or face the suspension of operations.
The NCA is mandated by law to license and regulate electronic communication activities in Ghana and has stated its commitment to protecting consumer interests in the broadcasting sector.
