The Minority in Parliament has taken a strong stance against the government’s recently announced “Big Push Programme,” accusing it of political dishonesty and rebranding existing infrastructure projects as new initiatives in the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review.

According to the Minority, several road projects presented as part of the fresh push were already initiated or planned under previous administrations. Among the projects flagged were the Wa–Han Road, Navrongo–Tumu Road, Sunyani Outer Ring Road, and the Tema–Aflao Road.

“These are not new projects,” said Kennedy Osei Nyarko, Ranking Member on the Roads and Transport Committee. “They were either tendered, designed, or started under past governments. What we’re seeing is a deliberate attempt to erase prior efforts under the guise of innovation.”

The caucus warned that such actions erode public trust and distort the narrative of national development. Nyarko argued that progress should be acknowledged as a continuum rather than a partisan reset, emphasizing the need for honesty in governance.

Beyond the rebranding claims, the Minority also raised concerns about the practicality of the proposed infrastructure plans, especially considering the country’s current fiscal limitations.

“Where is the money coming from? What are the timelines for completion? These are key questions the budget fails to address,” Nyarko noted.

The group is urging the government to revise its list of projects to properly acknowledge existing investments, prioritize critical ongoing works, and provide transparent implementation plans that can be realistically achieved.
