Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson Inaugurates New Board for Ghana’s Financial Intelligence Centre
Finance minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has officially inaugurated a new seven-member Board to steer the operations of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), as part of renewed efforts to strengthen the country’s fight against financial crimes.
The inauguration, announced in a statement by the Ministry of Finance and distributed by the APO Group, underscores the government’s commitment to tackling money laundering, terrorism financing, and other financial threats to the economy.
The new Board is chaired by Mike Kofi Afflu, with Albert Kwadwo Twum Boafo serving as Chief Executive. Other members include:
- Grace Mbrokoh-Ewoal – representing the Ministry of Finance
- Elizabeth Ama Yankah – representing National Security
- Kwasi Osei Yeboah – Member
- A representative from the Ministry of the Interior (Senior Police Officer)
- A representative from the Attorney-General’s Department
According to the Ministry, the Board’s mandate is to strengthen oversight and provide strategic direction to the FIC in its core role of safeguarding Ghana’s financial system.
“The FIC plays a crucial role in protecting Ghana’s financial system, especially as fraud and financial crimes become more sophisticated,” the statement noted.
The Board’s inauguration comes at a time when global financial watchdogs are heightening scrutiny over compliance and due diligence standards, placing further emphasis on the importance of robust domestic institutions like the FIC.
