Ghana’s Cocoa Industry Under Threat – Aisha Haung & Co The Culprits
Chinese nationals Aisha Haung & Co believed to be People’s Republic China government (PRC) operative are engaged in unorthodox mining activities in Ghana along with their Ghanaian counterparts .
The illegal mining activity is responsible for destruction of water bodies and Ghana’s major source of revenue Cocoa farms.
The Chinese are working with Ghanaians and in some cases it is alleged some high ranking government officials of Ghana are involved – The military is said to be operating to protect these destructive illegal individuals as uniformed individuals are seen in videos preventing task force from taking action irrespective of the evidence of destruction.
The illegal mining activity known locally in Ghana as Galamsey has gone through the roof astronomically since the proliferation of Chinese nationals. The galamsey activities taken to an extremely high level by these Chinese nationals is reported to have destroyed over 19,000 to 20,000 hectares of Cocoa farms a detriment to Ghana’s ability to produce cocoa which is reported to be down by 33% and in some other reports 53.9% – .2021/22
To top it all up, the illegal mining activities changed Ghana’s beautiful waterways in to an eyesore seasoned with poisonous mining waste full of chemicals.
The contamination of Ghana’s waterways due to deliberate release of mining waste into water bodies by these illegal miners resulted in increased water treatment cost.
The damage caused by these illegal activities is evident to all and will have direct health issues on Ghanaians especially those in the villages yet Ghana’s political leadership is politicking with the illegal mining aka Galamsey menace.
It is hoped Ghana’s leadership from all walks of politics will wake up to the reality of the situation before it is too late.
